Member Privileges®
Having a check, or
an EFT returned due to insufficient funds can
be a costly and humiliating experience. That’s
why we provide “Member
Privilege®,” a
special overdraft privilege for NAS JRB Credit Union’s
members. It gives you an added level of protection
against unanticipated cash flow emergencies and
account reconciliation errors.
At NAS JRB Credit Union, we do not encourage
overdrafts. As always, we encourage you to
manage your finances responsibly. The purpose
of this privilege is to save you from the embarrassment,
additional merchant fees or other problems that
might result if a check is returned.
Member Privilege® is
an overdraft privilege limit that is automatically
assigned to your account. There
is no action required on your part. You do
not need to sign anything. As
long as you maintain your account in good standing
(defined as making regular deposits and bringing
your account to a positive balance at least once
every 30 days, NAS JRB Credit Union may honor overdrafts
up to the Member Privilege limit on your account. By
keeping accurate records and knowing your balance,
you can avoid mistakenly accessing your limit and
incurring NSF fees. Use your checkbook register
to keep track of you deposits, written checks, withdrawals
and ATM or check card transactions. Always
reconcile your register with your monthly statement.
There is no additional cost associated with
this privilege unless
you use it. However, you should
keep in mind that you will be charged our standard
NSF fee of $20 for each item paid under the limit. Your
Member Privilege® limit is $400. If you have
multiple accounts for you household, you may have
a limit on all eligible accounts. This privilege
will cover shortages for share drafts (checks),
EFT’s, ATM withdrawals, and check card purchases.
If you do not want to incur a $20 fee for using
this service you must know your balance before you
make a purchase with your check card or a withdrawal
from an ATM machine.
You will receive an overdraft notice in
the mail each time items are paid. Over drafts
above and beyond your established limit may result
in a check or checks being returned to the payee.
The standard NSF fee will be charged per item
and assessed to your account. Your
account must be brought back to a positive balance
within 30 days. If
you are unable to do so, you should make arrangements
with us as soon as possible or your overdraft privilege
limit may be suspended and other steps to recover
funds may be taken.
After having a checking account in good
standing for 90 days, you will receive Member Privilege®.
You are not required to have Member Privilege® and if would like to have this service removed,
no problem, we simply ask that you sign and date
a removal form for our records. If
you would like to have Member Privilege® added
back to your account, a form with your signature
and date is required.
